Compared to racing done elsewhere in the world, the American Motorcyclist Association's Grand National series is challenging, unique, and baffling to outsiders. To have any chance at all of becoming the Number 1 rider, riders must have the well-rounded racing skills to enable them to find their way around dirt tracks of four varying lengths, shapes, and speeds, plus paved road circuits like Daytona.

Don’t Compromise on Motorcycle Racing Gear

The finest motorcycle racing gear is seen on the race tracks, and why not. The riders are aware of the dangers of skidding or colliding at high speeds, and take great precautions to protect their vital organs. Almost every accessory – from helmets to motorcycle boots – has extra protection.

 The helmet is the most critical. You cannot sport a DOT certified helmet and hope to take part in a racing event. Almost every racing federation lays down the minimum rating that is acceptable. This rating is laid down by Snell Foundation, and is indicated on the inside of race helmets.

Will tiny Pinehurst survive a 9-year-old’s 2-stroke rampage?

Many of you have never heard the term, but Scrambles was my first try at organized (sort of) motorcycle racing. Back in the mid-60's the tiny town of Pinehurst, Idaho held a Scrambles race most Saturday afternoons. We couldn't do it on Sunday because neighboring Smelterville held the Hillclimb on Sunday. You did not need to join anything, or sign anything; all you had to do was show up. There were two classes, 250cc and below, and the open class. I finally wore my dad down and he let me enter. He rode the Yamaha 100 Twin, yes, it was street legal, from our house to the "track." Mom hauled all of us kids, dogs, and beer in the Scout.

Kallio and Aoyama Luckless in Estoril

Technical problems stymie Red Bull team

Kallio starts well in Estoril Sept 16, 2007 - Red Bull KTM factory riders Mika Kallio and Hiroshi Aoyama went to Portugal for the 250 cc Grand Prix on the Estoril circuit will high hopes but saw their podium hopes dashed after both experienced technical problems.

Kallio, who started on the front row of the grid held third position on the opening four laps of the race and looked set for a promising place. But he was sidelined when his carburettor overflowed going into the fifth lap. Team-mate Aoyama charged through a fiercely fighting second group of riders and from fourth position had World Champion Jorge Lorenzo in sight when he was forced to retire with four laps to go.

Utah's Own Miller Motorsports Park Gets FIM Superbike
